What is a medical review?
A medical review is a private appointment with a registered nurse prescriber. It is a chance to have your health and any current medicines reviewed properly and without a rush, to talk through your concerns and options, and, where it is clinically appropriate and within the prescriber’s competence, to be issued a private prescription.
Our nurse prescriber is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and prescribes only within their area of competence, following the NMC Code and national prescribing standards. The focus of your appointment is a careful assessment and an honest conversation, not a promise of any particular outcome.
This service complements your NHS care and does not replace your GP. With your permission we can share a summary with your GP, which is considered safer for your overall care.
What we treat
A medical review can suit people who want a private, timely review of their health or their current medicines, delivered by a qualified prescriber.
What can and cannot be prescribed always depends on clinical appropriateness and the prescriber’s competence, and some medicines are restricted by law. Your prescriber will explain clearly what they can help with at your appointment, and will refer you to your GP or another service where that is the right thing to do.
Who it's for
It is for adults who would value a considered, private review and honest advice. It is not a substitute for your GP, for specialist care, or for emergency treatment.
Please note this service is not for medical emergencies. If you have an emergency, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent but non-emergency advice, call NHS 111.
Our approach
Your appointment is a proper face-to-face consultation. Your nurse prescriber takes a history, reviews your health and any current medicines, discusses your options, and where appropriate issues a private prescription that you can have dispensed at a pharmacy of your choice.
We keep clear records, and with your consent we share a summary with your GP so your care stays joined up and safe.
From first message to final review.
